Who are we?

Socialist Youths Union is the youth wing of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (People’s Liberation Front) which is the main leftist political movement in Sri Lanka and also one of the leading political parties in the Sri-Lanka’s parliament having won 37 seats out of 225 in the Parliament.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (People’s Liberation front) provides leadership to Sri Lanka’s youth community in their struggles for rights (such as education, employment) and agitates against social inequality and deprivation of rights.

It is also engaged in organizing Sri Lanka’s youth for socialism and to usher in a better world.

It is the expectation of the Socialist Youth Union to become the beacon of the youth community of Sri Lanka which is struggling against unemployment and repression. Socialist Youth Union has been carrying out its responsibilities in the sphere even amidst obstacles.

Simultaneously, S.Y.U. is actively working for the widening of educational opportunities, protecting the right for education, bringing solutions to unemployment and winning community democracy and equal opportunities for the youth.

S.Y.U. is also working for the building up of national unity. The development of attitudes of the youth community to come forward to face challenges confronting the Motherland and to link up with global family safeguarding the cultural identities and also for an environmental friendly development.

Generally, S.Y.U. has given the youths of Sri Lanka a determination and strength to build a better future. Young men and women who are equipped with correct ideology are joining under the leadership of SYU to struggle to build a better world. They are actively working in many fields in laying the foundation
