JVP commemorates ‘April Heroes’ in Colombo

“Comrades who sacrificed their lives to establish a classless society in the country have been commemorated even under very trying conditions,” said the Leader of the JVP Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe.

He said this speaking at the 41st Commemoration of ‘April Heroes’ held at the Open air theatre at Viharamahadevi Park today (5th).

The ‘April Heroes’ commemoration is held annually by the JVP to commemorate members of the JVP who laid down their lives during the uprising in 1971. The Members of the Political Bureau, the Central Committee and a large number of members participated. Read more…

‘Who owns software?’

A seminar that discussed the individual property in connection with the computer in a new dimension was held by the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) on the 28th.

The seminar named ‘Who owns software?’ was addressed by Senior Lecturer of the Open University and Member of A2K organization Dr. Dileepa Vitharana, the Computer Consultant to the Aquinas College Mr. Jayaneththi and the National Organizer of Socialist Youth Union Comrade Bimal Ratnayake. SYU Magazine in Tamil language

The official magazine of the Socialist Youth Union has been published in Tamil language. Launching of this magazine was held in Vavunia with the participation of its National Organizer Comrade Bimal Ratnaake. National Committee Member who is also in the editorial staff Murugan Mohan, Baskaran and Riyas of the editorial staff also participated in this event.

At media briefing held on this event at Pulic Balmolar Hotel in Vavunia, National Organizer of SYU said that it was a historical and beneficial opening to disseminate current and theoretical news on Marx Leninism politics.

Occupy Wall Street Movement Continues………….

On January 3, 2012, approximately 200 Occupy protesters performed a flash mob at the main
concourse of New York’s Grand Central Terminal, in protest against President Obama’s signing
into law of a defense act that the protesters perceived as detrimental to civil liberties. It was
reported that three people were arrested during the flash mob, and that it was a peaceful event.

Debarawewa public ground, Thissamaharamaya successfully. Large number of party members

53rd Anniversary of the Victorious Cuban Revolution

53rd Anniversary of the Victorious Cuban Revolution is celebrated by the people of Cuba on 01st January
2012.  Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista was defeated and ousted by the revolutionary army led by Fidel
Castro, Earnesto Che Guevara, Raul Castro and other revolutionary leaders on 01st January 1959. Later
Fidel Castro, the former leader of Cuba declared the 1959 revolution of Cuba as a Socialist revolution
and introduced many socialist reforms to the country. Even today Cuban people enjoy the benefits
of socialism. Although they have to face so many obstacles and sanctions imposed by USA and other
imperialists they have been able to protect the socialism in their country. We, the Socialist Youth Union

Struggle on behalf of downtrodden masses – Bimal invites youth

A campaign to collect signatures in support of Palestine organized by the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) was held near Davatagaha Mosque in Colombo yesterday (2nd) to mark the ‘Palestine Solidarity Day’ which falls on the 29th November.

Democratic Youths of the World condemn attack on SYU agitation

The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) making an announcement against eh tear gas and water cannon attck on the peaceful demonstration carried out by Socialist Youth Union against the budget 2012 presented by Rajapaksa government states ‘The anti-popular budget attacks the rights of the youth and the workers and explicitly ignores the major problem of youth unemployment.’
